Desserts

If there is something that I love, it has got to be a good dessert.

A multi-course-meal without a sweet ending would be like an Austrian Xmas without snow, don’t you think? Feeling somewhat incomplete and slightly wrong?
And couldn’t it sometimes just be a multi-course-dessert-meal with biscuits and cupcakes and cakepops and tartes and ice cream… well, I am lost.

PS: I am aware that desserts are in general not what you could call healthy. And while I believe that now and then a sweet treat is quiet alright in an overall balanced diet, I do have a bit of an obsession with the sweet department and I am trying to get it all:
the amazing taste of a “traditional” dessert, the great looks that make you wanna eat the whole tray of mini cupcakes ’cause they are so cute AND be more to our body than just white sugar, white flour and unfavourable fat. Also get some – or better a lot – of the good stuff traveling down to our bellies on that chocolate cake.
So that is my quest here :–)

Vanillekipferl vanilla crescents

Wholesome homely vanilla crescents

And here we are. Only a couple days to go. How is your “special” time of the year turning out? A bit stressed to have all presents ready and Christmas dinner planned out? Wondering just how you will get those elfs to clean your house to proper perfect Christmas-sparkle?  Even-though Christmas usually has the potential to threaten us with a certain load of stressful situations, it also gives us a great chance to unwind and enjoy, don’t you think? I decided that this year I rather view the cookie jar half full than half empty ;–) And actually… who says […]

apple stuffed apfel gefüllt custard pudding

Crisp apple treat for cosy Autumn moments

…and here we are, in the final spurt of 2017. Already November 4th! How many days until Xmas? Well, according to all the Christmas stuff available in shops around here since about 3 weeks ago, one could think, Santa is already on the way ;–) In recent years this early bombardment of Christmas stuff even got me annoyed at times. But 2017 had me come around. Somehow being a mother of an almost 2 1/2 year old little sunshine changes many things. I am really looking forward for him to discover this magical time to come in the last weeks […]

Wedding delights at the lakeside

A rain-heavy week like that makes one think about the warm sunflooded days of late Summer, doesn’t it? Particularly about those Summer days, that are marked by great conversations, hearty laughter, refreshing drinks, good food and a scenery that creates pure Summer feeling. Just imagine standing on soft green grass, looking out onto the glittering surface of a blue, crystal clear lake. A little swan family swimming by in rank and file. Pretty white chairs, benches and tables positioned in comfortable groups all around in the green, surrounded by some old shady trees in their Summer prime. Merry music mingling […]

cake fruit rhubarb peach kuchen obst rhabarbar marille

Quick & easy wholesome cake with sweet & juicy fruits

Hi guys, here I am back again with a sweet piece of cake poetry: « Juicy, sun-ripenend fruits bedded on soft, wholesome goodness forged together in the heat of a baker’s passion to become the simplest, most humble and nourishing cake. » This truly is a cake that will leave you feel as if you actually ate something healthy – in a good, satisfactory way! Because it IS healthy. But at the same time it does taste like cake. Contradiction? …no, just a successful mix of ingredients ;–) Currently my days are quiet busy, filled with all kind of projects (which […]

elderberry pancake holler holunder pfannkuchen

Early Summer in your pancakes: Elderflower

Have you walked through the forest lately and smelled this unique, wonderful, sweet perfume of elderflower? I did today and couldn’t resist bringing some home. Not to put them in a vase. Much better: to put them in our pancakes :–) A sweet dish that my granny used to make for me and my brother when we were little. A white-flour-deep-fried-version with loads of icing sugar on top, though. Which I remember to taste absolutely amazing. But as my attitude towards food and also taste for sweetness changed somewhat since then, I figured I should try a healthier take on that […]

banana bread bananen brot

Overripe banana “recycling” = perfect (father’s day-) brekkie highlight

Have you ever walked past the fruit area in a shop, wondering who on earth would possibly buy THESE bananas? Already brown and even large black dots all over? Well,… I would. What?? Mustn’t they taste horrible? They are practically compost!? Well,… that completely depends on your way to “recycle” that “compost”… There are quiet a lot of recipes that actually ask for an overripe banana :–) This particular recipe that I want to share with you today even needs three. And once you tried it, you will probably want to buy ALL those “ready-to-compost” bananas in the shop, because you will […]

sponge cake buckwheat poppyseed lemon cheese mother day

Brilliant bright sponge-base for individual (Mother’s day) cake

What would life be without Moms? … I’d say, literally: nothing. No mothers, no life (fathers too of course, but that’s another story). Ever since I am a mom myself, this day feels somewhat funny. Kind of like I were acting out two different roles simultaneously in the same movie. Firstly, the grateful daughter, who is thinking hard to come up with an idea of how to bring a little joy to her mom. And secondly, the devoted mother who is overwhelmed by her son’s lovely poem… or at least, I will be once my son is old enough to actually understand the meaning of this day. […]

valentines day cake choco coco

Happy Valentine’s Day! …and lots of (glutenfree-cake-) love :-D

Wondering what to surprise your loved one(s) with for Valentine’s Day? I have just the thing for you: amazing, delicious coco-choco-cake & cake balls (or pops)! I dare say, this has potential to become your favourite cake! Particularly the frosting is definitely one of my more genius kitchen-creations. And together with this soft gorgeous sponge we have the perfect (Valentine’s) couple :–D I have to admit though, that it is not strictly fitting into my healthy line of food. BUT I believe that in an overall healthy, balanced diet it is absolutely fine, to enjoy a “calorie bomb” now and then. Especially […]

organic biscuit glutenfree vegan

Delectable glutenfree+vegan soft biscuits & new ways in 2017

Hope 2017 brought only good things to you so far and that you have settled in well by now. I am starting to actually write 2017 instead of 2016 when I need to date something, so I dare say, I have finally arrived  ;–) And how is it going with all the more or less courageous new year’s resolutions? Still in the game? Not easy, is it, to change one’s habits. Well… my resolutions never work for long. So this year, I didn’t even make any in the first place ;–) But as life goes, strangely, they were made for me. Came upon me […]

cookies

Cosy crispy Christmas cookies :-)

What’s Christmas without Christmas Cookies? Just wrong, right? Yes. Just like an Austrian Christmas without snow… Unfortunately I have never learned how to perform a (rain-)snow-dance, but I did bake Xmas biscuits with my mum and my brother when I was little :–) So at least one of the two anti-Xmas scenarios can be averted ;–) Although I enjoy to munch on the Austrian classics each year, I find it always a great occasion to get creative and play with old and new recipes or make something beautiful from scratch. This year I wanted to bake something that is not just a delicious, pretty cookie. […]
